These are the standard dentures that replace an entire set of missing teeth - upper, lower, or both. They are custom-made by your dentist to fit into place over your gum ridges through a combination of natural suction and denture paste. Full dentures consist of a plastic base that resembles gum tissue and porcelain teeth that are fitted into the base in a dental laboratory. Dr. Herrera will take precise measurements of your mouth to ensure proper fit of your dentures. They can be worn comfortably all day, although they will need to be removed for cleaning. Dentures should also be soaked in a cleaning solution overnight while you sleep.
For patients who have retained some of their natural teeth, your Lawrence dentist often recommends partial dentures as a way of filling in the gaps. These restorations, often shortened to just "partials," look like sections of dentures, with the same plastic base and porcelain teeth, but they attach to natural teeth by way of metal clasps. Like full dentures, partials are removed for cleaning and overnight.
Implant supported dentures
A fairly new way of wearing both full and partial dentures is by combining the cost-effective aspect of denture plates with a series of dental implants that act as anchors. The base of the dentures snaps onto specialized implants, which are surgically placed under your gum ridges. These dentures provide unprecedented stability and function.
